Do you think the syllabus covered is appropriate? Is this what you expect in the module? If not, can you suggest what other useful topics to be included in CIP, OR what topics should not have been included at all (if any)?
I think all the topics covered in this module are useful and appropriate. I learnt how the computer process, the functions of the hardwares and most importantly, the dangers of using a computer. I was taught how to protect my computer from such dangers. My understanding on computer applications had improved. These topics are mor than what I had expected in this module.
Are the workshops on MS Word, Powerpoint & Macromedia Dreamweaver, Flash interesting & useful? Are these appropriate in developing your IT hands-on skills?
The topics which I enjoyed the most are Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash which is really interesting, useful, and fun. I had a great time working on these even though it can be quite frustrating when I first started as I was still not used to how the softwares function. The workshops on Microsoft Words and PowerPoint are very useful and had taught me alot. I discovered that actually there are still alot of tools which I did not know how to use in the past and did not realized that they actually exist. For example the Letters and Mailings tool. The Workshops on Microsoft PowerPoint and Words can help me in my presentation for other modules too. All these topics had certainly helped me in developing my IT hands-on skills.
Are the PBL problems authentic enough for you to learn better? Does it provide an opportunity for you to work effectively in teams as well as develop problem solving skills?
I felt that the PBL problems are to test us on what we had learnt and to let us check if we really understand the topics since we had to apply some of what we learnt during workshops and lectures. PBL 2 is about troubleshooting. I had experienced some of those problems mentioned there. I had always thought that I know how to solve those problems but actually, I didn't quite know how to, an some of the methods which I had appied are wrong!
While attempting to slove the problems in PBL 2, we discussed the problems together and try to come up with ways to solve it, with the help of the internet. We listen to each others opinoin and co-operated effectively in a team. This is an opportunity for us to develop our problem solving skills as we had to think really hard to come up with the solutions to the problems.
Are the lecturers and tutors helpful in your learning? Is the class size of 40 a good size for effective learning?
Yes. Both the lecturers and tutors are helpful in my learning new software applications. During workshop, I encountered some problems with my work and had to ask the tutor for help because I did not know what the instruction is refering to. Sometimes the instructions can be quite confusing to understand. So I always make use of the workshop to clear my doubts about the assignments.
The lecture on Dreamweaver and Flash is entertaining and enjoyable. The lecturer gave simple examples on these two topics which let me have an idea of how these two softwares work. The lecture notes on these two topics are certainly very handy. While working on my homepage, often I had to refer to these notes for instructions.
I think a class of 40 students is too big. Sometimes my group had to wait for some time before the tutor came to us after answering my classmates questions. Usually everyone only discus among their own group members and to others who are not in their group. So it is not very effective in this sense.
If there is 1 thing that you can change in CIP, what would it be?
If there is one thing I could change, it will be to keep the workshop within one hour because most of the time, most of us are not able to complete it within the two hours and had to bring it home to do. So I do not think that it is necessary for us to stay for 2 hours of workshop as we still have to bring the work home to to.
If there is at least 1 useful thing that you appreciate in CIP, what would it be?
I appreciated the assignment on Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash because I had long wanted to try to create my own webpage so it was really useful. The workshops also helped me explored the softwares too. These had widen my knowledge on computer software applications and precautions we have to take note of in oder to protect our computer.

This semester is ending soon. Whoa, very fast. Recently finished the common tests and had got back the test paper. Haha, luckily I didn't fail.
Well, last two workshops are on MS words which are really useful. I discovered that Words can actually create lots of letters at once with different addresses and recipient names. I think this is very useful especially if I were to send out alot of letters. I used to think that those letters which I received from NKF and some other organisations are being typed out one by one, and I felt that the person typing those letters will feel tired and bored. Just imagine typing and amending the recipients' name for so many letters. But now, I know that this can be done so simply. Haha, stupid me...

Finished Dreamweaver and had handed up today. Haha, its fun creating my own home page but had encountered some problems too... Anyway, had fun doing it!
As for the test, well, I couldn't do it. Didn't expect it to have so many questions on MS Powerpoint. Guessed most of the answers, so hopefully I guessed them correctly.
I pray hard that I won't fail the test for I couldn't really answer most of the questions...
There's PBL2 to complete now. Best is my group will do better for this PBL than PBL1.

Finally the study break is here. So I'll start creating my home page...
Had gotten back the results for PBL1. Some feedbacks is that we had included too much information on our slides, the explanation for the computer part is quite confusing, and I presented not as good as the others. I'm quite satisfied with the grade for I don't expect an A, but if can get a higher grade, of course better. Haha. Got a B for the project...

Yoz, it's been a long time since I last posted. Ok, here's what's been going on. Finally, my group had finished PBL1 and had presented in class. Hope it's not too badly done, because we had put in lots of time and effort to complete it - hope it pays off. I think I still need to improve on my presentation skills though. I had seen the presentation by other groups in my class. I think they had done very well. They presented so confidently. Infact, I think I'm the worse presentor in my class. :(
One other thing is that my group met in the morning on Tuesday (the day we make the presentation) to decide how we should deliver our speech. At around 11.20am, Weiling's handphone rang and she told us everyone had reached and are waiting for us. Owww, how embrassing that is. We ran all the way from the Atrium to the classroom. Haha, by the time we reached there, everyone of us were panting. Luckily, we are not the first group to present...
From this project, I had learnt alot about printers, print servers, wireless connection, softwares and hardwares. In addition, I didn't even heard of some of the softwares which we had found. We had spent most of our time in the library to do PBL for the past two weeks. Also, Weiling came to my house and stayed over night so as to try and complete the project on time together. The next day, she felt sick. Don't know what had happened. Maybe she is too tired and hungry? But, never mind, she had recovered now. (tumbs up!) We also tried to include everything which our tutor had taught us, into our slides. Hopefully this helps to push our marks a little higher.
Last few lectures, I learnt how to use macromedia dreamweaver and flash. I'm so excited. Haha. That's because I know I will have fun creating my webpage. However, I haven't started creating anything. The lecturer had shown us a flash done by a student. I think it is nice and quite creative.
There are lots of work to do lately. Tomorrow will be the first test I have for this semester, which is BSTA. I think I will have to wait until the 2 weeks study break to start on my webpage.

For the past 3 weeks, I had learnt alot about Microsoft Powerpoint. Like how to combine two workbooks together, how to search better online so that I won't get information which i don't want. Now, trying hard to finish PBL1.
When I first heard about CIP, I did not expected it to be anything to do with computers. I thought it was something like the 'Community Involvement Programme", where we can get ourselves involve in work like cleaning up at the void decks, picking up rubbish at parks, and distributing the 'Know Drug' badges at MRT stations (something which i enjoyed most).
I look forward to learn how to create web pages, how to use macromedia, hacking, the internet, and the dangers of using internet, and which is the correct way to protect my computer from spywares and adwares.
